My Big Adventure - Lynda Bennett's Avon 3Day walk
For three days in August 2001, I put my body, mind and spirit on the line for a cause that I believe in. I participated in the Avon BreastCancer 3 Day event. I joined about 3,000 others is a 60 mile walk from Enumclaw to Seattle. That's walking approximately 20 miles each day over some fairly steep terrain. It was an amazing journey for me on many different levels.
I am not an athlete. Before beginning training for this, I wasn't even particularly fit. (Truth be known I'm 40 something grandma somewhat on the "fluffy" side!) But when I heard about this event, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. In preparation for the challenge I worked very hard to train my body and to raise money through sponsor donations. I had many opportunities to go outside my comfort zone in both areas. But it was so very worth it. I raised over $2,700.00 and contributed to an overall pot of $4.6 MILLION that was raised by this event. I also learned things about myself that I could have gained in no other way. Being in this event truly shaped and changed my life. This site is here as a record of that experience, so that any time I begin to forget how precious life really is I can go back and remember the lessons I learned during the walk.
